COMMERCIAL & FLEET ·  LUBRICANTS

Petro-Canada lubricants for the southwestern Ontario fleet.

DURON heavy-duty engine oils, TRAXON drivetrain fluids, HYDREX hydraulic, PRECISION grease, and Air1 DEF — supplied as an Authorized Petro-Canada Lubricants Distributor. Bulk, tote, drum, pail. One rep on the account, the same one who handles your diesel and your cardlock.

01 / WHAT WE DELIVER

A full Petro-Canada Lubricants line, on the same route as the diesel.

Boucher & Jones is an Authorized Petro-Canada Lubricants Distributor. One rep handles the account year-round — the same rep who runs your clear diesel, your cardlock, and your DEF.

  • Engine + transmission

DURON heavy-duty engine oils across API CK-4 (SHP, HP, UHP) and API FA-4 (DURON Advanced 5W-30 for EPA-2017+ trucks on VDS-5, EOS-5, CES 20087). TRAXON Synthetic MTF for Volvo I-Shift and Mack mDrive automated manuals. PRODURO and DURADRIVE for Allison TES-spec automatics.
  • Hydraulic + gear + grease

HYDREX MV multigrade hydraulic (Eaton, Denison, Bosch Rexroth approvals on the standard grades). HYDREX EXTREME and MV Arctic 15 for skid steers, salt spreaders, and outdoor-stored yard equipment through a southwestern Ontario winter. TRAXON axle gear oils — 80W-90 mineral, 75W-90 synthetic blend on Meritor TP 9539, and TRAXON E Synthetic on the Eaton/Dana Roadranger extended-drain program. PRECISION XL lithium-complex and moly-fortified greases for fifth wheel, kingpin, and chassis service.
  • Coolant + specialty

Petro-Canada extended-life coolant — ELC for light-duty service and HD ELC for newer heavy-duty engines on the OEM-approved 1,000,000 km / 12,000 hr drain. Air1 DEF for Tier 4 SCR, blended at Mississauga and certified to ISO 22241. ENVIRON readily-biodegradable hydraulic for port-adjacent yards, drainage-adjacent fleet work, and any equipment working close enough to a watercourse that a 200 L spill is a Spills Action Centre call.
  • Bulk · tote · drum · pail

Bulk tanker delivery on the workhorse products — DURON HP and SHP move that way for a heavy-duty fleet running through more than 4,000 L a year per fluid. Totes on the medium-volume specialty fluids. Drums on the lower-volume specialties. Pails on the long tail. The right format follows your annual draw and your shop, and the rep walks through the math.

02 / FIND THE PRODUCT

Match your truck to a Petro-Canada product.

Petro-Canada Lubricants are blended at Mississauga from the HT purity process — Group II and Group III base oils that come out of the refinery 99.9% pure, the cleanest commercially produced in the world. DURON, TRAXON, HYDREX, and PRECISION carry that base across heavy-duty engine, transmission, axle, hydraulic, and grease applications. The widget below shows which one fits your truck, against the OEM spec your service manual names.

Result

Pick the manufacturer, the model line, and the component.

The right Petro-Canada product, the OEM spec it matches, and an honest read on whether Petro-Canada holds a formal approval letter or not.

What the status labels mean

  • Formally approvedPetro-Canada holds a current OEM approval letter on the product.
  • Meets/exceedsPetro-Canada claims spec match; no formal OEM approval letter in hand.
  • Industry-equivalentCompatible category and grade; no specific Petro-Canada claim against this spec.
  • Verify with PCL repData is incomplete or the application is warranty-sensitive — talk to the rep first.
03 / FORMATS

Bulk, tote, drum, pail — the honest economics.

Format thresholds are directional industry rules of thumb, not B&J’s price book. The right format for your shop depends on your annual draw per fluid, where the drum or tank lives, and whether contamination control on fill and dispense is real or aspirational.

  • Pail · 18.9 L

Under 200 L a year per fluid. Premium roughly 30–50% over bulk. The right unit for specialty products — HYDREX EXTREME, HYDREX MV Arctic 15, ENVIRON, PURITY FG — and for any fluid you draw rarely enough that a sealed pail outlasts a drum on the shelf.
  • Drum · 205 L

200 to 1,500 L a year per fluid. Premium roughly 15–25% over bulk. The workhorse for axle gear oil and TRAXON Synthetic MTF on a small-to-medium fleet, and for engine oil on a shop with under a dozen heavy trucks. Wheeled drum dolly, hand pump, and a clean dispensing nozzle — the discipline that keeps the next ISO 4406 particle count below the equipment target.
  • Tote · 1,000 L (IBC)

1,500 to 4,000 L a year per fluid. Premium roughly 5–10% over bulk. The right step for a fleet running 15 to 30 heavy trucks on DURON SHP or HP, with a yard-mounted dispenser, desiccant breather on the vent, and the empty tote returned for refill on the same delivery cycle.
  • Bulk tank · on-yard

4,000+ L a year per fluid. Baseline pricing. Dedicated on-yard dispensing equipment, supported by B&J. Filtration on fill (10-micron) and dispense (5-micron) for hydraulic; desiccant breather on the vent. Without that discipline the bulk economics go negative — new oil out of a 205 L drum often arrives at ISO 4406 21/19/16 against equipment targeting 18/16/13, and bulk inherits the same problem if filtration isn’t in place.

04 / USED OIL

Used oil management, end to end.

Ontario’s used-oil programme runs under Automotive Materials Stewardship as the producer responsibility organization under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016. A heavy-truck fleet generates higher used-oil volumes than a farm of comparable equipment count — most SWO fleets clear the 200 L/year threshold for free pickup within the first month of the year.

  • 01

    What’s covered

Used engine oil, hydraulic, transmission, and axle gear oil. Used oil filters — spin-on and element, including hydraulic, transmission, IC engine, and fuel filters. Empty oil containers up to specified sizes. Antifreeze and antifreeze containers. Drain into clean containers; bagged drained filters can go for collection.

  • 02

    Free pickup, at volume

Registered Collectors offer free pickup for generators of larger quantities. The 200 L/year threshold is the practical line. A 20-truck fleet on DURON SHP at typical drain intervals clears that in roughly the first month of the year; the free-pickup conversation is the default for fleet, not the exception. Smaller volumes drop off at any of the 17,500+ collection sites across Ontario.

Why this lives on a B&J page

As a Petro-Canada Authorized Distributor, Boucher & Jones is part of the Environmental Handling Charge chain on the supply side — the EHC is paid into the AMS system on every litre that ships out. The page can be the single point of contact for both the litres going in and the litres coming back out.

05 / FAQ

Questions fleet managers ask.

01Which Petro-Canada engine oil matches my Cummins, Volvo, Mack, or Detroit spec?
For API CK-4 service, DURON SHP 15W-40 (or DURON HP, or DURON UHP for severe-duty / cold-start) carries Cummins CES 20086, Volvo VDS-4.5, Mack EOS-4.5, and Detroit DFS 93K222 across the line — all four OEM approvals on file at Petro-Canada. For API FA-4 service on EPA-2017+ engines that call for it, DURON Advanced 5W-30 carries Volvo VDS-5, Mack EOS-5, Cummins CES 20087, and Detroit DFS 93K223. On the Mack EOS-5 and Volvo VDS-5 lines specifically, only DURON Advanced 5W-30 holds the approval — not the 10W-30 grade. The rep pulls the OEM approval letter for your build before we quote.PETRO-CANADA OEM APPROVAL CHART · CAPTURED MAY 2026
02CK-4 or FA-4 — which one for my fleet?
CK-4 is fully backward-compatible to CJ-4, CI-4 Plus, CI-4, and CH-4 — it runs in any pre-2017 engine and any 2017-plus engine, with a higher HTHS viscosity (≥3.5 cP) for shear stability. FA-4 is intended only for EPA-2017-plus engines that specifically call for it, with reduced HTHS (2.9–3.2 cP) for roughly 0.5% fuel-economy gain at highway cruise. FA-4 is not backward-compatible to pre-2017 engines. Most mixed fleets stay on CK-4 for inventory simplicity. The case to switch shows up on a new tractor whose OEM explicitly approves FA-4 — Detroit DFS 93K223 has the broadest backward acceptance, approved on DD-series back to 2010; Volvo VDS-5 and Mack EOS-5 came online in November 2025 and only cover DURON Advanced 5W-30.API CK-4 / FA-4 SERVICE CATEGORIES · PCL DURON BRAND PAGES
03Will Petro-Canada DURON void my engine warranty?
No, when DURON is matched to the OEM spec your engine calls for. Modern heavy-duty engines warrant against an API service category (CK-4 or FA-4) and, where applicable, a brand-specific approval — Cummins CES 20086, Volvo VDS-4.5, Mack EOS-4.5, Detroit DFS 93K222. Petro-Canada holds those approvals across the DURON line. The warranty conversation is about following the OEM service interval and the spec, not the brand of oil. PACCAR is the one heavy-duty OEM that runs no engine-oil approval-letter program at all — for a PACCAR truck the warranty conversation runs through API CK-4 category compliance, and for the Cummins X15 power option through CES 20086. The rep pulls the relevant OEM service literature before quoting.OEM SERVICE LITERATURE · PCL OEM APPROVAL CHART
04What’s the cheapest way to buy hydraulic oil for a 20-truck yard?
A 1,000 L tote for the conventional HYDREX MV grade, drawn through a 5-micron filter on dispense, with a desiccant breather on the vent. That sits in the 1,500–4,000 L/year band where tote economics dominate. Bulk on-yard starts to win above roughly 4,000 L a year per fluid, and the math only works if filtration on fill and dispense is in place — new oil out of a 205 L drum often arrives at ISO 4406 21/19/16 against equipment targeting 18/16/13, and bulk inherits the same problem without the filter. The specialty grades — HYDREX EXTREME, HYDREX MV Arctic 15, ENVIRON for waterway-adjacent work — stay in pails or drums regardless of fleet size.ISO 4406 · PCL BULK DISTRIBUTOR PROGRAM
05Will my used oil get picked up?
Yes, for almost any fleet. Ontario’s used-oil programme runs under Automotive Materials Stewardship (AMS) as a producer responsibility organization under the RRCEA 2016. Registered Collectors offer free pickup for generators producing more than 200 L of used oil per year — a threshold a 20-truck fleet running DURON SHP clears in roughly the first month of the year. Smaller volumes drop off at any of the 17,500-plus collection sites in the province. AMS diverts about 34 tonnes of these materials from landfill every day. The same conversation can cover the litres going in and the litres coming back out.AMS · USEDOILRECYCLING.COM · RRCEA 2016
06Do you carry biodegradable hydraulic for waterway-adjacent work?
Yes — ENVIRON MV R, certified readily biodegradable under OECD 301B (more than 60% biodegradation in 28 days) and built to deliver the technical performance of conventional hydraulic. Where it belongs: port-adjacent fleet yards, equipment working in or beside a watercourse, drainage-adjacent operations, fleet work near a storm drain that runs to a sensitive receiver. There’s an honest cost premium against conventional HYDREX — running ENVIRON across an entire yard rarely makes sense. Running it on the equipment that actually sits near the water does. The rep walks through where it belongs on your operation, and where the conventional HYDREX is the right answer.OECD 301B · ENVIRON MV R PRODUCT DATA
