Petro-Canada lubricants for the southwestern Ontario farm.

DURON, DURATRAN, HYDREX, PRECISION, TRAXON — and the food-grade and biodegradable lines where they belong — supplied as an Authorized Petro-Canada Lubricants Distributor. Bulk, tote, drum, pail. One rep on the account, the same one who handles your fuel.

01 / WHAT WE DELIVER

A full Petro-Canada Lubricants line, on the same route as the fuel.

Boucher & Jones is an Authorized Petro-Canada Lubricants Distributor. One rep handles the account year-round — the same rep who runs your diesel and propane.

02 / FIND THE PRODUCT

Match your equipment to a Petro-Canada product.

Petro-Canada Lubricants are blended at Mississauga from the HT purity process — Group II and Group III base oils that come out of the refinery 99.9% pure, the cleanest commercially produced in the world. The DURON, DURATRAN, HYDREX, TRAXON, and PRECISION lines carry that base across heavy-duty engine, transmission and hydraulic, gear, and grease applications. The widget below shows which one fits your machine, against the OEM spec your operator manual names.

Result

Pick the manufacturer, the model line, and the component.

The right Petro-Canada product, the OEM spec it matches, and an honest read on whether Petro-Canada holds a formal approval letter or not.

What the status labels mean

  • Formally approvedPetro-Canada holds a current OEM approval letter on the product.
  • Meets/exceedsPetro-Canada claims spec match; no formal OEM approval letter in hand.
  • Industry-equivalentCompatible category and grade; no specific Petro-Canada claim against this spec.
  • Verify with PCL repData is incomplete or the application is warranty-sensitive — talk to the rep first.
03 / FORMATS

Bulk, tote, drum, pail — the honest economics.

Format thresholds are directional industry rules of thumb, not B&J’s price book. The right format for your shop depends on your annual draw per fluid, where the drum or tank lives, and whether contamination control on fill and dispense is real or aspirational.

  • Pail · 18.9 L

Under 200 L a year per fluid. Premium roughly 30–50% over bulk. The right unit for specialty products — PURITY FG, ENVIRON, HYDREX EXTREME, HYDREX MV Arctic 15 — and for any fluid you draw rarely enough that a sealed pail outlasts a drum on the shelf.
  • Drum · 205 L

200 to 1,500 L a year per fluid. Premium roughly 15–25% over bulk. The workhorse for engine oil and conventional hydraulic on a single-tractor operation. Wheeled drum dolly, hand pump, and a clean dispensing nozzle — the discipline that keeps the next ISO 4406 particle count below the equipment target.
  • Tote · 1,000 L (IBC)

1,500 to 4,000 L a year per fluid. Premium roughly 5–10% over bulk. Gravity dispense or pump, desiccant breather on the vent. The right step for mid-size mixed operations running through 600–1,000 L of DURATRAN over the rotation and a drum of engine oil a season.
  • Bulk tank · 1,000–4,500 L on-farm

4,000+ L a year per fluid. Baseline pricing. Dedicated on-farm dispensing equipment, supported by B&J. Filtration on fill (10-micron) and dispense (5-micron) for hydraulic; desiccant breather on the vent. Without that discipline the bulk economics go negative — new oil out of a 205 L drum often arrives at ISO 4406 21/19/16 against equipment targeting 18/16/13, and bulk inherits the same problem if filtration isn’t in place.

04 / USED OIL

Used oil management, end to end.

Ontario’s used-oil programme runs under Automotive Materials Stewardship as the producer responsibility organization under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016. Most SWO farms producing more than 200 litres of used oil a year qualify for free pickup.

  • 01

    What’s covered

Used engine oil, hydraulic, transmission, and gear oil. Used oil filters — spin-on and element, including hydraulic, transmission, IC engine, and fuel filters. Empty oil containers up to specified sizes. Antifreeze and antifreeze containers. Drain into clean containers; bagged drained filters can go for collection.

  • 02

    Free pickup, at volume

Registered Collectors offer free pickup for generators of larger quantities. Most SWO farms producing 200+ L of used oil a year qualify. Smaller volumes drop off at any of the 17,500+ collection sites across Ontario; AMS diverts roughly 34 tonnes of these materials a day from landfill.

  • 03

Why this lives on a B&J page

As a Petro-Canada Authorized Distributor, Boucher & Jones is part of the Environmental Handling Charge chain on the supply side — the EHC is paid into the AMS system on every litre that ships out. The page can be the single point of contact for both the litres going in and the litres coming back out.

05 / FAQ

Questions farmers ask.

01Which Petro-Canada oil matches the spec in my operator manual?
For most modern ag equipment, DURON SHP 15W-40 is the categorical match on the engine — API CK-4 across the line, the same category Plus-50 II and the equivalent CNH, AGCO, and Kubota engine oils carry. On the transmission and hydraulic side, DURATRAN is the categorical match for J20C, MAT 3525, MF M-1141, Kubota UDT, and the rest of the legacy UTTO matrix. For John Deere IVT, CNH CVT, and Fendt Vario CVT applications under active OEM powertrain warranty, the conversation is worth having with the rep before switching — that’s what the verify-with-PCL badges in the lookup are about.PCL DURON / DURATRAN OEM APPROVALS · OPERATOR MANUALS
02Do I have to use Plus-50 II in my John Deere?
Plus-50 II is API CK-4. DURON SHP 15W-40 is also API CK-4 and matches the categorical engine spec. PCL does not publish a formal JD approval letter on current multigrade DURON products, so the page does not claim one. For a Deere customer under active OEM powertrain warranty, that distinction is real and the right play is a conversation with the rep before the next drain. For a machine out of warranty, DURON SHP is the categorical match and the same oil-analysis discipline that protects an extended drain on Plus-50 II protects it on DURON SHP.JOHN DEERE PLUS-50 II PRODUCT DATA · PCL DURON OEM APPROVALS
03How often should I sample oil from a 300-hour-a-year tractor?
Once a year at drain is the floor — annual baseline, three integers on the ISO 4406 line, viscosity, wear metals, base number, and a soot read. A mid-season sample adds trend data and is worth the C$25–40 once you have a year of history. The single highest-value sample on a SWO farm is mid-harvest on the combine engine, drawn early enough for the report to land before the next service event, not after.PCL 360 OIL DIAGNOSTICS · ISO 4406
04What’s the cheapest way to buy hydraulic oil for a 1,500-acre operation?
A 1,000 L tote for the conventional hydraulic, drawn through a 5-micron filter on dispense, with a desiccant breather on the vent. Bulk on-farm starts to win above roughly 4,000 L a year per fluid, and the math only works if filtration on fill and dispense is in place — new oil out of a 205 L drum often arrives dirtier than the equipment is targeting, and bulk inherits the same problem without the filter. The specialty products (HYDREX EXTREME, HYDREX MV Arctic 15) stay in pails or drums regardless of operation size.ISO 4406 · PCL BULK DISTRIBUTOR PROGRAM
05Will my used oil get picked up?
Yes, for most SWO farms. Ontario’s used-oil programme runs under Automotive Materials Stewardship (AMS) as a producer responsibility organization. Registered Collectors offer free pickup for generators of larger quantities — most farms producing more than 200 L a year qualify. Smaller volumes drop off at any of the 17,500+ collection sites in the province. The same conversation can cover the litres going in and the litres coming back out.AMS · USEDOILRECYCLING.COM · RRCEA 2016
06Do you carry food-grade lubricants for the milking parlour?
Yes — the full PURITY FG line. NSF H1 registered for incidental food contact (AW Hydraulic 32 = #102588, AW 46 = #102589, AW 68 = #102590). Allergen-free, Kosher Pareve (Star-K), Halal (IFANCA), much of the line ISO 21469 certified. Typical scope on a 150–250 cow operation is 8–15 lubrication points where PURITY FG genuinely belongs (above-feed bearings, milking parlour pulsator pumps, TMR mixer drive above the mix chamber). The rest of the operation runs conventional grease at standard cost — the page is here to scope, not to replace everything.NSF WHITE BOOK · PCL PURITY FG · ISO 21469
