What each standard covers

Standard Scope
CSA B620 Design, construction, certification, testing, repair, and marking of highway tanks for transporting dangerous goods
CSA B621 Selection and use of highway tanks for transporting Class 3 (flammable liquids), Class 4, Class 5, Class 6, Class 8, and Class 9
CSA B622 Selection and use for Class 2 (gases)

TC 406 specification

TC 406 is the most common low-pressure, non-circular highway tank specification for flammable liquids — gasoline and diesel sit here. CSA B620 Clause 5.7 defines TC 406: operating pressure 18–28 kPa, cannot be loaded by vacuum.

Periodic re-test schedule

CSA B620 Tables 7.2 and 7.3 define the periodic test schedule:

  • Annual — external visual inspection
  • Periodic — pressure test, leakage test, thickness test, internal visual inspection (intervals vary by service and tank type)

TDG training

A TDG training certificate for road transport is valid for 36 months (Transport Canada TDG Bulletin — TDG Training). See (unpublished reference) for the full TDG framework.
